Why buy pastured poultry and eggs?
- Taste! Pastured poultry is fresher and better tasting than industrially grown poultry and eggs.
- It's better for you! Our birds are fed fresh pasture and all natural feed with nothing artificial added... no antibiotics, no hormones. Our poultry is processed by hand with no added water or salt. Pastured poultry tends to be lower in fat and higher in nutrition, especially omega-3s.
- It's better for the birds! Our birds are raised on range with room to roam, never caged. Pastured birds are able to act more like birds: They get exercise and get to add variety to their diet by foraging for tasty bugs and weeds. This results in stronger, healthier, hardier, and happier birds!
- It's better for the environment! Buying locally produced food reduces wasteful transportation. Also, livestock waste and by-products are composted and returned to the earth.
- It promotes biodiversity. Small farms are able to raise breeds of livestock that factory farms don't find profitable enough. Many of these rarer "heirloom breeds" are much more hardy and disease resistant than their commercial counterparts.
- Your dollars stay in the community and support small family farming. Some of our goals for this farm/business are to teach our 5 children the value of hard work and an appreciation for the earth and its creatures, and to provide a healthful and ecologically responsible product for our community. - For those of you who may be skeptical about buying meat straight from the farm, please be assured that all of our poultry is processed in a facility that has been approved and inspected by the state of Iowa Department of Agriculture.
